I'm officially nuts...

Because I'm stressing out over ribbon. Yep, ribbon. Well, and paper too, for the programs and escort card, but I'll leave that for volume 2.

I've picked out my cake:

As you can see, it has a pretty ribbon tied around it. But these are not my colors, so I've been vexed with what color of ribbon to tie around it. My bouquet, and the flowers that will be on top will be some sort of terracotta orange roses (the big and open kind). I'm not sure exactly which kind of roses - that's for volume 3 of why-I'm-going-nuts-stressing-over-the-small-wedding-stuff. My colors are the terracotta orange, ivory, gold, and a touch of navy. In no particular order. I've been thinking I would go with a terracotta colored ribbon, but then I thought, "Is that too much orange on the cake?" Hmm, maybe gold "Will it be too shiny for the cake and look tacky?" Navy blue, "Too much contrast, I think..." Ivory/Champagne colored, "Will that blend in too much?"

Then, there is the TYPE of ribbon. Evidently, if I were to find a pretty double-faced satin, that would be too floppy of a ribbon to stand up. And where to even find ribbon? I found a place online, I think, that has tons. BUT, what if I order and don't like the color?? Then what?

See? Nuts. Totally nuts.

And don't even get me started on the bouquet ribbons. I wanted big floppy wide bows. And I like the beaded ribbon too. My mom brought up the idea of wrapping my bouquet with antique hand embroidered/laced napkins or handkerchiefs. That would be pretty... but can I still have my big floppy ribbon-bow?

Ugh. It's all the small details that are the hardest! It's so hard to envision some of these things without actually seeing them done. And I know that, in the end, nobody's really going to care or remember it much unless its' 1) God-awful 2) somebody consciously paying attention because they're getting married and trying to find ideas OR 3) in somebody's photograph. I know that, really, I'll be the only one who cares.

Stay tuned for volume 2 when I go nuts trying to sort out what I want for my programs. Do I want something light and pretty, like the script-print paper I found?? Or do I want something bolder, like this:

Ooh, I like the idea of those bold papers. Unexpected and interesting.

Isn't it funny how we can be so rational about how nobody notices the small stuff and yet still worry about it? I guess that's the planner's job.

I'd say that the best way to figure out colors are just to go to a craft store and compare and constrast all those ribbons. See which ones strikes your fancy.

But I have seen all orange cakes before with orange flowers on top and then ribbon and they looked really nice.

My opinion: Loving the bold paper! Especially the top one. Go with champagne ribbon on the cake. Understated, elegant, the orange roses will add enough punch. Yes, you can have napkins AND floppy bows on your bouquet. (You've just inspired me there!) No, you're not crazy and certainly not the only bride to feel like this! Good luck!

I love details, so i don't blame you for fixating on ribbons... lol. I'd agree with blablover5 and say, compare in person... that may be the best way to alleviate any stress :)

I just found your blog, passing by to say it is great!
Good luck with the decisions.
