Bright White and Light

Light colored walls are everywhere right now. Magazines, the internet, real clients' houses, my computer's pictures file... I don't know when it happened, but I'm really loving the clean simplicity of the look. And when done right, I don't think it's boring at all.

I love darker trim with lighter walls...

And ebonized or darker floors...
Lots of natural materials to add texture...
The contrast of dark and light...

Different sheens to add depth...
I love this kitchen with it's white walls and darker trim, natural materials on the floors and counters, and contrast of the dark windows to the light walls. It has great lighting too!

I also love the brightness that natural light brings to these rooms!

I realized that I have sooooo many "inspiration" pictures just like these - with white or very very light colored walls - and right now they're making me want to re-paint my entire house. Which is extreme, I realize.
Anyone else like white out there?

When I was growing up, I hated our white walls. I begged my mom to let me paint my room any other color. But she felt white was the best.
When my friend painted her room dark purple I understood why Mom went with white. My friend's room looked tiny and in 6 months when she fell in love with a green comforter her parents told her she was stuck with the purple walls (she'd done it without their consent anyway).
I prefer white walls for now. Makes decorating a little easier for me since I'm decorating challenged :)

I have white walls right now that my land lord won't allow me to paint. Perhaps I should get over it and embrace them. I have you to thank for the inspiration!

Yes to white/light/bright walls! I am going to be repainting our apt this weekend to light colors because I crave that airy feel it gives. Like Linda said above, growing up I hated that my mom kept all the walls white or very light and now I finally get it!

My mom has really light caramely cream colored walls. They look so good with her light green accents. I love rich light walls. A lot of these photos are to die for inspirations!! I am going to save some to my computer right now.

In general I'm a fiend for color, but lately I've been craving a pristine white backdrop. After a long, cold winter it feels fresh and lovely. Especially with gorgeous pops of color from furnishings and accessories.

Such a great round-up of inspiration. And thanks for the link love. :0)
