This was Texas, y'all

Last Tuesday it was my birthday (woo), so I took a couple days off from work and everything to veg and ostensibly get some things done around the house (which, surprise!...didn't happen). I was lazy, and it was nice.

Once I went back to work, I had some catching up to do, and then THIS all hit. 12.5-inches of snow in one day! In TEXAS! Fun fact: they don't carry snow shovels in the stores here. Oh, and snow plows? Nope. We have sand-trucks.

What was sad to see was all the beautiful large live oak trees breaking under the weight of the snow. Live oaks are evergreen, so the leaves allowed more snow to accumulate on them. We had so many towering trees splintering and bowing over, which then led to massive power outages and road blockages.

But, the snow was so pretty, and such an unusual sight here!!! It took about 3 days for it to really melt off. In fact, if you look, there are still a few very very small patches here and there that still haven't melted!

So, what to do when you're stuck at home with sometimes flickering power and a foot of snow on the ground?

And so now I'm playing catch-up again at work...
Still alive....
Promise to have a real post up soon!

More snow than we have here!

We've had a pretty mild winter this year. *knock on wood*

Happy Belated!

Wasn't the snow CRAZY? Also kind of fun and different. The tree in our front yard had much the same problem as your collapsing under the weight of the snow. I was so scared it would break but thankfully it didn't :)

I'm glad to hear that you had a good birthday!

I always wonder how places that don't normally get snow deal with it. I guess the method is hoping that it warms up and it melts or that the rain washes it away. Does that basically sum it up?

Wow. You have more snow than we do. In Canada. That's crazy.

I agree, Evan Lysacek is beautiful. And that snowboarder Shaun White was pretty amazing last night. I'm looking forward to tonight's speed skating (we have a couple good competitors) and I'm interested in Patrick Chan's long program tonight (he's currently in 7th). Actually, I'm interested in the entire men's long program in figure skating tonight: there will be some amazing men to watch!

Looks more like PA than TX! We had a crazy snow here in October that took down a lot of the gorgeous elm trees. Happy belated birthday by the way!

Oh my gosh, Evan Lysacek was STUNNING! He was so amazing!!!

I also enjoyed watching some of the newer / younger skaters. Denis Ten was filled with such artistry and was just a pleasure to watch! Also Paolo Bacchini was just such a joy: he was artistic, but he also looked like he was having the time of his life. And Florent Amodio was also fun to watch. My two faves were Denis and Paolo, though, because I felt like I was experiencing their joy with them.
